We're abominable imperialists

I'm so humiliated and embarrassed by how Hawaii became a state. We overtook their government, an existing sovereignty that we had signed treaties with in the past, imprisoned their queen and forced her to abdicate. Then when the UN Charter recommended that we give "our" "citizens" a choice whether they wished to remain a protectorate, territory, become a state or gain independence - we only gave them one choice, become a state.
We are abominable and disgusting to do this to the spiritual Hawaiian people. Here's our official apology. And an interesting analysis by a law professor about how Hawaiians can re-establish their government and independence from the US.
